Building a cool little app and need to store some data for your users? Well, then all you need to do is set up a database server, design a database, put a DAL on top of it, build some webservices and you are good to go. Or, you could ask Microsoft to do that for you, and instead focus on the value adding features. Azure Mobile Services offers just that, a very simple way to get a backend up and running in minutes, allowing you to focus on more important things. Not to mention that it takes minutes to get started…literally!

Web Site Authentication with Social Identity Providers

Windows Azure Websites allow developers to provision and deploy web applications to the cloud in seconds. The new ASP.NET Universal Providers in .NET 4.5 allow membership and profiles to easily be stored in Windows Azure SQL Databases. The Windows Azure Access Control Service enables websites to use social identify providers, such as Google, Yahoo and Windows Live ID to authenticate web users. .NET 4.5 also includes Windows Identity Foundation classes as part of the core functionality.

Four great new technologies, but how can they all play ball together?

In this demo intensive session Alan will use a community website as a scenario and focus on how authentication, registration and profile management can be implemented. The use of ACS and claims based authentication will be covered along with the transformation of claims using both rules and ACS and code. The extensibility of Windows Identification will be covered along with the integration with the ASP.NET Universal Providers to allow users to create site proviles.

Alan Smith

Alan Smith is from the north of England and resident in Stockholm, Sweden. He has worked in the IT industry since 1995, and has a broad range of experience with Microsoft technologies.

Since 2005 he has worked as a trainer, developing and delivering courses in BizTalk Server, Windows Communication Foundation, Workflow Foundation and more recently Windows Azure. He specializes in intensive training courses in technologies which he has a deep understanding for and a passion for developing with. He is a Microsoft Certified Trainer and MCPD certified for Windows Azure.

Between courses he acts as a mentor to other developers and teams, sharing his knowledge to improve their project development. He also works closely with Microsoft, attending software design reviews and providing feedback to development teams, helping to improve the quality and usability of their products.

In 2012 he took the initiative to organize “CloudBurst 2012” a two-day Windows Azure developer conference in Sweden that attracted international presenters, over 100 attendees, and around 1,000 live-stream viewers.
